Top students at the Scottish Centre for Occupational Safety and Health (SCOSH) are to be awarded a £500 cash prize.

Specialist health and safety software company, eHandS, will present the award to outstanding MSc students for research into health and safety in the workplace. The Centre, based at the University of Strathclyde, is the only provider of the MSc in Safety and Risk Management in Scotland.

Colin Thorne, Course Director, said "The work carried out by our MSC students can play a significant role in researching how workplace safety can be improved, and we're delighted eHandS has chosen to recognise their efforts."

"Our students are supported by a team of industry experts and members of the business community to give them the skills needed to manage health and safety in today's ever-changing work environments."

The MSc programme, builds on the Centre's postgraduate certificate and postgraduate diploma in Safety and Risk Management, each running on an on-line distance learning basis, over a 12 month period. The award of MSc can represent the culmination of threee years work, often undertaken in addition to full time employment.

Brian Hunter, Commercial Director with eHandS, said: "Health and Safety is a big challenge for today's businesses and to meet that challenge businesses need people with the right skills. The Scottish Centre for Occupational Safety and Health is playing a key part in delivering these skills."

The competition is open to students completing their Masters project in 2008.
